currents rush through me
index mapping the angles 
of my flesh and bone
i swallow your interior nectar
your steady heartbeat resounding
lingering beneath me
the sea hums
failing to choke back its slaver
gooseflesh peppers my arms
apprehension of essence is impossible
 
digits across cotton field and sand
so far from the leather i’m used to
neck crooked as lips and teeth sink into humus and topsoil
nose dragging into grass
your bestial antecedent waking
a part of us stirs
recollecting the before
